Haas boss Guenther Steiner believes his team is an example that new teams coming into the sport can compete.

Haas joined Formula One back in 2016 and now have a close relationship with Dallara and Ferrari.

The side are currently fifth in the constructors' championship following a solid start to the campaign.

They sit 19 points behind Renault, who are in fourth place and team boss Steiner admitted that is Haas' target for this season.

Haas have claimed back-to-back eighth places in the championships since joining the sport a couple of years ago.

"I think we have proved that it is possible to start a team from new and be competitive in the midfield," Steiner told MotorsportWeek.

"Obviously, we are very conscious that we cannot compete with the big three, but I think it's testimony to a good plan and good people.

"Everybody from fourth to 10th can be competing for points this year, as we've all seen. Now, being fifth, it's nice to be there.

"After testing it was realistic to think we could be there, but we were very conscious that it would be hard work and it is hard work actually."

Haas did superbly in the 'triple-header' that concluded at Silverstone a couple of weekends ago, scoring 32 points, more than any of their near rivals.

"I think with the potential of the car we have shown over the last three races, it is possible to aim for fourth," Steiner added.

"If we achieve it or not, that's a different question."
