'AlphaTauri builds its best ever F1 car with AT04'

AlphaTauri had a particularly mediocre year. Franz Tost's team finished ninth among the constructors, while the target was to finish at least sixth in 2022. Next year, AlphaTauri wants to take a big step forward with the AT04. The outgoing Pierre Gasly reveals that, according to the Faenza-based racing team, this car is "its best F1 car ever".

Gasly himself will not experience that again. He is making the move to Alpine and will be replaced by Nyck de Vries. Together with Yuki Tsunoda, the Dutchman will want to do everything possible to attack the top-five. In any case, the 2023 bolide should be a big improvement.

The Frenchman spoke to AlphaTauri engineers and they are particularly hopeful. "They told me that next year their car will be the best they have ever made and that they will fight at the front!" said Gasly to Motorsport.com, adding an immediate comment, though. "Everyone in the paddock will be making big strides, though, so no one knows exactly what will happen."

New concept for AlphaTauri

AlphaTauri is switching to a completely different concept, according to Gasly. However, that does not necessarily mean the team will be successful with this. At Mercedes, we saw that a revolutionary concept can also go badly wrong. In 2023, they will design more parts themselves and take less from 'big brother' Red Bull Racing.
