The second free practice for the United States Grand Prix is about to begin. The second session of the weekend in Austin is entirely dedicated to a Pirelli test, but there is an exception for some teams. Don't miss any of the action on and off the track with this liveblog from GPblog.

The second free practice session in America lasts an hour and a half. The session has been extended by half an hour to give Pirelli enough time to test the new tyres. The prototype tyres for 2023 are mandatory for all teams and drivers during this extended session so the Italian tyre manufacturer can collect a lot of data for next season.

Yet there is one exception, as a number of drivers will spend the first half-hour driving around with this season's tyres (identified by the colours on the tyre sidewall). The drivers who had to give up their seats in FP1 to rookies Robert Shwartzman (Ferrari), Theo Pourchaire (Alfa Romeo), Logan Sargeant (Williams) and Alex Palou (McLaren) will be given half an hour to explore the track on the tyres they will race on.

Despite being driven on unfamiliar tyres, the session is still very important for drivers and teams. A lot of data can be collected about the track and the setup needs to be perfect for qualifying and the race. This liveblog will take place in English.
