Christian Horner has been working closely with Max Verstappen for the seventh season. The British team boss went through a lot with the driver during those years, including the two world titles he won. The Spanish Grand Prix also remains in Horner's memory, he told The Guardian.

Whereas Verstappen was still racing for Toro Rosso at the start of the 2016 season, Red Bull Racing decided to replace Daniil Kvyat for the Dutchman just before the race weekend in Spain. Verstappen had little experience at the time, so the team assumed he would have to get used to it.

However, the opposite was true, as he immediately managed to secure a good starting position in Barcelona. Then, with a victory, he took full advantage of the failure of Lewis Hamilton as well as Nico Rosberg, who was fighting for the world title at the time. "I’ve never seen anything like it, what we witnessed that day was something special," Horner stated about Verstappen's performance.

Verstappen is still out to improve

In the years that followed, a lot happened between Verstappen and Red Bull. Both sides worked hard for seasons to raise the level and have a year of serious competition for the world title. Despite Verstappen's two world titles to his name, Horner noticed that the driver remains critical.

"The great thing is he is just open to pushing himself in all areas, he always feels there’s more to be had. He is quite clearly the most talented driver that I think we have had in one of our cars," said Horner, who along with Sebastian Vettel won four world titles.
