Boullier sees no reason to give up hope for 2018 season

Fourth place might be slipping away for McLaren, but Eric Boullier can’t find any reasons to give up hope on their 2018 goal. After the last couple of races, Renault seem to have taken control of fourth place, deemed ‘best of the rest’

The next three weekends will determine how the rest of the season is set up, but Boullier insists McLaren aren’t going to concede anything and will continue to develop for the 2018 season.

"I think it's worth to develop it for a couple of reasons," he said to ESPN

"The first one is to understand what's wrong and to not repeat any kind of platform mistakes in the future. Secondly, I think there's still time to develop this car, potentially curing the low-speed lack of grip which has a big impact on top performance. So those are two reasons why we should carry on.”

The British team are now 16 points behind fourth. They’ve had a few changes of personnel through the season, including that of Tim Goss. Boullier went on to confirm his team members have the ability to achieve more.

"I believe in the people we have in place today. There is a great talented bunch at McLaren," he added.
