Red Bull Racing is particularly dominant this year if we look at the standings in both world championships, but in reality the difference with Ferrari is a lot smaller. While Red Bull Racing is by far the best on Sundays, it is Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz who often still call the shots in qualifying. Paul Monoghan hopes the Austrian racing stable will be at the front again in 2023.

Next year's regulations will not be very different from this season's, but here and there teams will still be forced to adjust the car compared to 2022. For example, the floor will be raised to 15 millimetres above the ground. In addition, the diffuser has to be raised and the race teams have to work on the stiffness of this part.

So it is not just saying again that if Red Bull finishes this season as the fastest, that they will be the leading factor again in 2023. Indeed, Monaghan, chief engineer at Red Bull, states, "I'm not sure we necessarily benefit for next season from doing well now. We should at least start at par with our opponents. But at least we need to master the rule changes to floor height and stiffness."

Less time for Red Bull

If Red Bull takes the constructors' title this year, it will also get five per cent less time in the wind tunnel compared to the number two in the final standings. The number three even gets an extra five per cent time. So Red Bull is very likely to have less time than its rivals to build an equally or even more competitive car. "If we can do that, we will be at the front again next year," Monaghan told Motorsport-Magazin.com.

Whether the Milton Keynes-based formation is capable of doing so? Red Bull's top man thinks so, although there are no guarantees. "Of course we will be competitive again. The question is: can we maintain this very high level? We will do the best possible job, with some of the best people in Formula 1," he concludes his story.
