He would have been very close to missing the race, but a negative Covid test prevented Jos Verstappen from witnessing the second home win of his son Max. In Zandvoort he witnessed an exciting race, in which Max Verstappen was given a hard time by Mercedes.

"It was super exciting, but Red Bull was on top of things again", Jos says in conversation with The Telegraph. He also saw Mercedes having a chance at victory and is happy that after the late safety car it worked out well for Max Verstappen and Red Bull Racing. "You would say that Mercedes has learned from last year's last race in Abu Dhabi, but apparently not", laughs the 50-year old Dutchman.
For Verstappen, it meant another extension of his lead in the Formula One championship, in which he has won ten of the fifteen races to date and now looks unbeatable. "It's amazing what he's showing. Yes, it's clear he has a bit of an advantage. But you should never count yourself lucky if you are not there yet," the former F1 driver wisely concludes.
