Ferrari hoped after a disappointing end to the first half of the season that it would come back stronger after the summer break, but the Belgian Grand Prix proved otherwise. In fact, the team continued its sensational on-track action. It proves once again that the Italians have a long way to go.

While Charles Leclerc was forced to start outside the top ten due to an engine change, the Monegasque worked hard to move up the order. Meanwhile, his team decided to question him at length over the board radio as to when was the right moment to go in.

This is most likely due to the race weekends before the summer break. In the final race in Hungary, the driver was not happy with the strategy used by Ferrari. As a result, it seems that Leclerc has demanded to have more say during the holiday period.

Ferrari on the wrong track

It makes sense that Leclerc, like team-mate Carlos Sainz, is unhappy with some of the strategic choices and is therefore having discussions with his team, but the current line does not bode well. Whereas Leclerc knows his tyres on the track, the Ferrari team has the complete overview of the race.

While it may happen in the future that Leclerc chooses to stay out while Ferrari calls him in for a pit stop, it is illogical that Ferrari would actively seek advice from him. Not only does it leave Leclerc with more to worry about and less time to focus on his performance on track, it also makes Ferrari look insecure.

With a gap of almost a hundred points to Verstappen, the championship now seems almost impossible to achieve, so the stable would do well to focus on next season. It should not only focus on the car, but also look at the internal problems. Without solutions, Ferrari could face a similar year in 2023.
