Christian Horner couldn't help but lash out at the competition after the Belgian Grand Prix. Mercedes had pushed hard for a new Technical Directive, but it seems Red Bull Racing were not bothered by that at all.

New TD from the FIA

Since the start of the 2022 Formula 1 season, Mercedes has been complaining about frequent bouncing. According to Toto Wolff and his team, the FIA had to change the rules to prevent the bouncing. According to the German team, Ferrari and Red Bull had found something that was against the spirit of the rules.

The FIA thought so too and therefore introduced new technical guidelines from the Belgian GP. Mercedes was very happy. They would not be bothered by it, but Ferrari and Red Bull would have to get closer. The disappointment was huge this weekend when Red Bull scored a 1-2 and managed to put the competition well behind.

Thank you Mercedes

''On the face of it I’d probably have to thank Toto for the TD!'', jokes Horner in conversation with Crash.net after the race at Spa-Francorchamps. ''A lot was made and a lot of expectation was put on that TD, so perhaps it’s hurt others more than it’s hurt ourselves. So we haven’t really changed the way we operate the car.''

Red Bull's pace at Spa was shocking. Verstappen came from P14, but overtook everything and everyone with playful ease. ''Obviously, strategically we chose to take the penalty here and 14th became 13th technically as the starting point with everybody else. But of course Max still had to navigate his way through the pack and he did that very efficiently,'' the Brit concludes.
