Sebastian Vettel is known not only as a four-time Formula One world champion, but also as an activist who speaks out on various environmental and important social issues. In an exclusive interview with The Telegraph Vettel talks about the responsibility he feels.

Vettel is the only F1 driver who has no presence on social media, but that does not stop him from using his status within the sport to raise awareness for various issues.

For example, the four-time world champion has championed the LGBTQIA+ community, but also various climate issues. During the weekend of the Canadian Grand Prix, he spoke out about the mining activities in Alberta, after which the Aston Martin driver received fierce criticism from local politicians.

Vettel much changed over the years

Vettel explains how he has felt the responsibility to speak out more as he has matured. "It’s not an overnight thing. It’s very different to what I sounded like ten years ago. But look at the age on my passport. There is a time and an age for everything. I’m very happy that I discovered these other subjects, because they made my world grow."

"These things have to be said, because they are a part of where we are today. It feels like a responsibility", says the 34-year-old. Vettel now has three children with his wife Hanna. According to the Aston Martin driver, fatherhood has helped him discover how important it is to help make the world a better place.
