Mercedes made an excellent impression during the Canadian race. While Lewis Hamilton finished third on the podium, George Russell had to settle for fourth. For Andrew Shovlin, the result was confirmation that Mercedes is doing well, he said in the formation's press release.

Hamilton has been faced with criticism from the outside world in recent weeks, but once again proved what he is capable of in Canada. The Briton managed to secure a fourth starting position in difficult circumstances and eventually took third place.

"Lewis had a very solid drive to the podium; we didn't quite have the pace of Max or Carlos but most of the time, it felt that we were just missing two or three tenths which will spur us all on to work to close that gap," Shovlin said.

Work to be done for Mercedes

The Mercedes CEO is confident that the German racing team will continue the hard work. "The team in Brackley and Brixworth will continue to push hard, there's lots to improve on the car but that can be translated into potential and the race today has given us more encouragement to keep pushing to close that gap."
