With the FIA 's new 'technical directives' to combat porpoising, Mercedes in particular is under a magnifying glass. However, according to Auto, Motor und Sport, the German team has brought an update package to Montreal to remedy this.

The FIA has decided to intervene. After the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, there were many complaints (especially from the Mercedes camp) about the bouncing. Where The German racing team was hoping for a rule that would be to everyone's disadvantage, it is now itself under a magnifying glass. With the new 'technical directives' a car is not allowed to bounce as much anymore, otherwise the car has to be raised.

Bad luck for Mercedes

Changing the ride height would have consequences for Mercedes' performance. The W13 is now set so low to compensate somewhat for the lack of pace. This does sacrifice the comfort of the drivers. By its own insistence, Mercedes will probably not be able to do this anymore.

Yet Mercedes seems to have already acted on this, as AMuS reports that Mercedes has brought a package of measures for the Canadian Grand Prix to reduce the bouncing. This was already the plan before intervention by the FIA. The floor has now been made stiffer and additional slots have been added to the floor. Whether this is enough to meet the new requirements will become clear at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve.
