Helmut Marko thinks Red Bull Racing has good chances of his team taking its sixth consecutive victory at the Canadian Grand Prix. According to the 78-year-old Austrian, the many straights speak in favor of the RB18 of Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez. Marko also talks about updates that are still to come this season.

Red Bull gets off to a good start in 2022

To BILD Marko says he is very satisfied with the course of the season so far. This is not surprising since Red Bull has a lead of 80 points in the Constructors' Championship and among the drivers Verstappen and Perez occupy the places one and two.

"The whole team is in the right rhythm. Actually, our first half of the season is always weak. Not this year," Marko says. Although Ferrari has been heavily dominant in qualifying for several weeks, the Red Bulls have the best chance of winning this weekend. "The circuit suits our car. We are optimistic that we can get a good result. Canada is a circuit that suits us very well.

Weight RB18

Formula 1 cars must be at least 798 kilograms this year. All teams actually want to be exactly at that weight, because heavier cars make for slower lap times. The RB18 has been struggling with overweight all year. Thanks to updates, the Austrians have already lost several kilograms, but the target weight has still not been reached. "There are still a few tenths in the car," he concludes his story.

Ferrari would by now already be at or around 798 kilograms with its F1-75. For Red Bull, this is advantageous, because (although making a car lighter is expensive) it is relatively easy to gain time. When the Milton Keynes-based formation plans to come up with updates regarding the weight, Marko did not reveal.
