Ferrari made a strategic blunder during the Monaco Grand Prix, which cost Charles Leclerc a victory in his home streets. Team boss Mattia Binotto vows to investigate the mistakes and also wants to seek some clarification with the FIA

Leclerc misses out

Leclerc pitted on lap 22 for dry tyres. The double-stack placed him behind his teammate immediately and then the Red Bull drivers produced an over-cut to get ahead. Binotto synthesises with his driver.

"Disappointing with the result, and I understand fully Charles' disappointment. Something was wrong in the decisions we made which clearly, we need to review. We underestimated the pace of the intermediates at that stage. These are mistakes that may happen, but more important is lessons learnt on why they happened," Binotto told Sky Sports.

Perez and Verstappen both put in very quick outlaps whilst Carlos Sainz got stuck in some traffic. Sainz insisted that this cost him the race. Binotto wants the FIA to look at the pit exit as the Italian believes Red Bull crossed the line.

"We believe there was clear [braking] of regulations. The two Red Bull go on the yellow line exiting the pits. It was not close, it was on the line. The sporting code says crossing. If you look at the driver's notes, it says staying to the right. For us that is something unclear, we are seeking clarification with the FIA," Binotto added.
