Christian Horner is disappointed with the result of qualifying for the Monaco Grand Prix. Max Verstappen was improving in his final run, but the Dutchman had to abort his lap after Sergio Perez's crash.

In the end, it was Charles Leclerc who took the important pole position. The Monegasque was fast all weekend and even before the red flag, he was still improving his pole time. "I don't think pole was in it. Charles was powerful. Congratulations to him, because we couldn't have set that time. It's a shame, both drivers could have improved. Max went significantly faster," Horner told Sky Sports.

In the closing stages of Q3, Perez landed in the wall, so no one could finish his lap. Verstappen was on P4, but the Dutchman was improving. Perez had been faster than his teammate all weekend, but in the end, he could not challenge Leclerc for pole position. "Checo has been fast all weekend. It's disappointing not to have a car on the front row, but we will fight from there."

Horner hopes for chances in the race

In 2021, Verstappen was also unable to complete his lap in Q3 due to Leclerc's crash. Horner hopes the race will provide opportunities, as everyone knows overtaking on the Monaco circuit is not easy.

"It's the second year in a row that it happens to him. There's nothing more frustrating than being on a lap where you can see you're going faster. We fight as hard as we can. The weather, safety cars, anything can happen. We're still on the second row so it's good to be disappointed about that," said the team boss.
