Mark Webber, in his column at Motorsport Magazine what in his opinion is the greatest secret of Red Bull Racing. The Australian, who played a total of seven seasons for the Austrian racing stable between 2007 and 2013, states that there is managerial calm and the relationships among the team are fantastic.

Stable organization

"What’s Red Bull’s secret? It is very lean at the top," Webber says of what makes Red Bull so strong as a team in the premier class of motor racing. According to the nine-time Grand Prix winner, the difference with Mercedes is immense, which is mainly due to politics. "Toto Wolff does a brilliant job filtering out the corporate influences at Mercedes, because all the corporate stuff can be a massive anchor. Red Bull doesn’t have that – and it has also been blessed with great stability."

On a managerial level, things are quiet at Red Bull and the top management, consisting of owner Dietrich Mateschitz, team boss Christian Horner and advisor Helmut Marko, is incredibly well matched. The men have known each other for years and know exactly what to expect from each other. At Mercedes, things have been different in the past between Wolff and, for example, Ola Källenius, CEO of parent company Daimler.

Red Bull has guts

Webber: "It has benefited from fantastic consistency and has retained most of its key staff, but it’s that leanness at the top that counts  Yes, the team has good finances, because the brand is strong, but it also has a can-do attitude." Since entering Formula 1, Red Bull Racing has managed to become world champion five times among drivers and four times among constructors.

The trio of Mateschitz, Horner and Marko is joined by Adrian Newey. Red Bull's top men managed to convince Newey to move to Milton Keynes in 2005. That proved to be a golden move, because with the top British designer, the team has tremendous quality in house. According to Webber, Mateschitz loves Newey and his obsession with engineering.
