F1 drivers show positive signs in Saudi Arabia: 'Impressive'

Formula 1 had to anticipate a missile attack on an oil depot that took place right next to the Saudi Arabia circuit a week and a half ago. Several drivers then spoke out critically about the country in which the race took place. Alex Wurz thinks this is a good thing.

Saudi Arabia is not the only country in the Middle East that is criticized every year. Indeed, not everyone agrees about the Grands Prix in Qatar, Bahrain and Abu Dhabi either. After the events in Saudi Arabia, however, the drivers also made themselves heard louder than ever. Wurz does not expect the current drivers to drop their criticism any time soon.

"It’s definitely very impressive to watch that they strongly came together," the president of the Grand Prix Drivers Association informed The Guardian. "As they did so over the last few years, but now it is demanded of athletes. The transformation of young people taking this responsibility is impressive."

Domenicali takes up for Saudi Arabia

F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali actually believes that the sporting event in Saudi Arabia contributes to a better world. According to Domenicali, he sees that the country is improving a lot for women and children, among others, which is why hosting the Formula 1 event would actually make sense.
