A lot happened in Saudi Arabia. From a rocket attack near the circuit on Friday, to an action-packed race on Sunday. A more successful weekend for some teams than others, with one team holding a huge lead in the constructors' championship and others still at zero points. How well did those teams do in Jeddah?

Ferrari - 9

A lead of no less than 40 points has already been built by Ferrari after two races. In Jeddah, they were beaten on class by Max Verstappen, but still Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz both managed to reach the podium again. Everything indicates that the two together have a great chance of winning the constructors' championship and individually also have enough chances to win the drivers' title.

Red Bull - 9.5

For Red Bull Racing, the race in Jeddah Corniche Circuit could not have gone much worse. Only criticisms could be that Max Verstappen disappointed with his fourth place in qualifying and that the team fell short to support Sergio Perez after his pit stop and the subsequent unfortunate safety car. Nevertheless, they can look back on a successful race in Jeddah, notching their first points and thus moving directly into third place in the championship.

Mercedes - 6.5

George Russell may have been 'Best of the Rest', but actually, Lewis Hamilton really reflected how big Mercedes' problems are. Qualifying 16, when a year earlier they were on P1 and P2. A lot goes wrong for the German team, although on paper they are not doing badly. They still hold the second spot, with a lead of a single point over Red Bull, but a gap of 40 points over Ferrari.

Still, there will be concerns, because just like the customer teams, they are short of speed on the straights and are not yet doing as desired in the corners either. As a result, this season we will not see Hamilton fighting for victories, but fighting for P9 with Kevin Magnussen.

Alpine - 8.0

Fernando Alonso's retirement was not nice for the team, as they were doing tremendously well on the streets of Jeddah. In the opening stages, we were looking more at the pink cars than the driver in front, as Alonso and Esteban Ocon were left free to race. This then continued for laps, until Ocon finally received a team order to stay behind.

Still, they can be satisfied at Alpine, because with this result they are in a strong fourth place in the championship. The gap to the front is large, but in the midfield they have a stronger position than a year before. This will give hope for the upcoming season.

Haas - 7.5

While they did tremendously well in Bahrain, things didn't go as well in Jeddah. In the free practice sessions, there were problems for Kevin Magnussen and in qualifying, things went badly wrong for Mick Schumacher. This left Haas with only Magnussen's car on the grid and although he himself indicated that they had the car to finish fifth, it turned out to be a ninth place at the finish flag. Still, two points again, bringing the total to twelve.

Alfa Romeo - 7

Just enough for Alfa Romeo, because also in Jeddah they were a team to be reckoned with in the midfield. It just didn't lead to points, with Guanyu Zhou on P11 and Valtteri Bottas having to drop out with problems after 36 laps. Still, qualifying should offer hope, with Bottas making them Ferrari's best scoring customer team.

AlphaTauri - 5

After this weekend, Yuki Tsunoda will want to have some firm talks with the engine department of Red Bull Powertrains. In the free practice sessions he was still driving at the top, but eventually dropped out in qualifying after one lap and in the race he didn't even manage to complete the lap to the grid. With Pierre Gasly they finished eighth, but as a team you need two drivers to get points.

McLaren - 6

Limiting the damage, that is by now the motto at McLaren. They clearly made a wrong move with the 2022 car and are now left with a car that is not fast enough to attack the top. Still, they were on their way to a double points finish for a long time, until Daniel Ricciardo crashed out on lap 35 with a technical problem. Norris eventually dragged in six points, the first points of this season.

Aston Martin - 4.5

Still zero points for Aston Martin and on top of that, they were the hedge funders of the Saudi Arabia Grand Prix. Even with seven dropouts, Aston Martin could not take advantage and finished 12th and 13th. Alexander Albon and Lance Stroll of course hit each other in the closing stages, but things are not going well for the team. Nico Hulkenberg could not impress with his comeback either and will have to settle for a role on the sidelines again from now on, as Sebastian Vettel will most likely get back into that car in Melbourne.

Williams - 3

This weekend we saw the most crashes from the Williams team. In qualifying, things went wrong for Nicholas Latifi when the rear of his car shot out from under him. In the race, exactly the same thing seemed to happen, causing him to fall out at the final corner. Albon could not impress himself either, with the low point being the crash with Stroll which earned him a three-place grid penalty for the Australian GP.
