Some fans and F1 experts have compared the battle between the rivals to that between Alain Prost and Ayrton Senna. In conversation with Auto, Motor und Sport Wolff is asked if the battle was actually comparable.

"No, they are totally different guys. Max is lightning fast, but he doesn't have that experience yet. Lewis is driving at the top of his game", Wolff says. According to the Mercedes team boss, the two drivers were in a class of their own. Sometimes they were as much as 40 to 45 seconds ahead of the driver who finished third. Wolff compares the fight against Red Bull with two boxers who alternated.

Ferrari and Red Bull

As a result, the fight against Red Bull was different from the one against Ferrari. Wolff indicates that Ferrari's strength came from the engine, but that they were beatable when they managed to make up the ground on the straight.
