In 2019, Honda recorded their first win, first pole position and a total of 11 podiums. Between the four drivers, they tallied 502 points, 336 more points than they scored between 2015 and 2018. Meanwhile, Aston Martin Red Bull Racing stagnated.
In the latest Unibet podcast, Mikka Hakkinen takes a look at this. The 1998 and 1999 F1 world champion sees development in the Red Bull garage but insists there was only one big winner in their new relationship.
"Adrian Newey has such a big influence on that team, you'll see that again this season. Of course, it remains a team performance, but the extent to which Red Bull knows how to grow in unprecedented. Newey plays an important role in this," says Hakkinen.
“Honda has invested so much and taken so much risk to come back to the top and with the switch to Red Bull, they are the biggest winner. They did it and are at the top again."
