Renault have not ruled out a move for Fernando Alonso despite rumours of a switch next season.
Alonso is reportedly not happy with his or McLaren's current situation with their current mini-chrisis.
The Spaniard won Le Mans 24hr race a few weeks ago and is an Indy500 win away from the 'triple crown' after completing two-thirds of the feat.
The Renault side currently have Nico Hulkenberg and Carlos Sainz Jr. racing for them, but the latter's future is in doubt - as he is currently on loan from Red Bull.
McLaren believe that if they prove they are still competitive in the championship then Alonso could be persuaded to stay with the team.
However, since McLaren's split with engine partner Honda, they have struggled greatly to remain competitive.
Alonso managed to achieve eighth place in yesterday's British Grand Prix.
Cyril Abiteboul, Renault's boss, says that his team are not in a hurry to make any conclusive decisions.
"We are not in a hurry and we also have to see what are the side effects of the (Red Bull) decision on the engine," Abiteboul said.
"But in general, the drivers we have work well and we would like to keep them.
"But I am also calm in the sense that, if we have a good car and progress as a team, we will have a selection of drivers who want to be with us."
Could Alonso be one of those drivers? The 36-year-old won two titles with the French side, now over a decade ago.
