MotoGP will have a new format entering the 2027 season. From the next year onwards, it will also include a Sprint Qualifying.
Next year, MotoGP fans will need to reorganize their schedules. Alongside the first year of MotoGP's new regulations, with 850cc bikes and aerodynamic parts being reduced and more tightly controlled, the weekend format will also change.
As always, the first time riders will take to the track will be on Friday. The day will begin with a 45-minute FP1 session, followed by a 30-minute second free practice session. Timed practice will disappear; instead, MotoGP Sprint Qualifying will take place, with all 22 riders involved. It will be 15 minutes long.
On Saturday, MotoGP riders will have an additional 20 minutes of free practice with FP3. The day will then continue with Qualifying for Sunday's Grand Prix. With no timed practice session, all 22 riders will start in Q1. Then, similarly to the current campaign, the 12 quickest riders will battle it out for pole position in Q2.
Then, on Sunday, the MotoGP Grand Prix will follow the Moto3 and Moto2 races. Additionally, instead of a warm-up session, the pit lane will be open for 10 minutes to allow for multiple sighting laps, as highlighted by the competition.

The decision has also been announced by the Grand Prix Commission.
