Race director Niels Wittich announced prior to the weekend of the Australian Grand Prix that from now on no earrings, piercings and necklaces will be accepted in Formula 1. Toto Wolff does not understand much of this decision, he told Sky Sports.
Lewis Hamilton himself also let it be known that he has no intention of abiding by the new rules in the Formula One paddock. The seven-time world champion wants to be able to be who he is and states that some piercings are so fixed that having them removed is not even an option.
Wolff: "Is this [the jewelry ban] a battle he needs to have at this stage? However, if it turns out to be the biggest unfortunate misstep of a race director, I would take it a thousand times over."
The Mercedes team boss made it clear that he is not mourning the departure of Michael Masi.

Compliments too, though

However, Wolff also has to give Wittich compliments. According to the fifty-year-old Austrian, the new race director has made good choices in the first Grand Prix's of the season. "How he has run the first few races has been respectful, solid and he hasn't put a single foot wrong."
