Toto Wolff does not agree with the outcome of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. The Mercedes team boss saw Lewis Hamilton finish second, but in the opinion of the Austrian, the Briton should have crossed the line first. With race director Michael Masi he expressed his frustration during the race.
After word comes out that five drivers will be allowed to overtake the safety car to get rid of a lap deficit, Wolff said over the radio."You have to keep the order of the other lap on the restart, this is not right." Masi, however, didn't care about that: "Toto, it's motorsport."
Because Masi decided otherwise, Verstappen was able to immediately connect behind Hamilton and on fresh softs, he managed to pass the Mercedes driver on the final lap. Had the other cars not been allowed to overtake the safety car, Hamilton would almost certainly have won his eighth title. It is possible that Mercedes will appeal the result.
