Williams clings to philosophy: "Not always wise, but we believe in it"

The Williams Formula 1 team has been in heavy weather for some time now. Last season, for example, Robert Kubica was kept in the garage several times in order to save on parts. However, with new investors and regulations there now seems to be light at the end of the tunnel.

Although Williams has been in the news again negatively in recent weeks, when it became known that main sponsor ROkiT would disappear, it also seems that Michael Latifi's investments are enough for the team to keep its head above water. At least until the budget limit is reached.

As of next year, all teams will have to make do with a similar budget as Williams had to make ends meet in recent years. Claire Williams hopes that this is their chance to find their way back to the top, without having to make concessions to their concept.

Williams is proud to be one of the few private teams that still do everything themselves. With the exception of McLaren (although nowadays you could also call it a car manufacturer), all their competitors nowadays make use of knowledge and parts of one of the top teams or manufacturers. Williams buys an engine, but produces everything himself.

"Up until now, being an independent team wasn't always wise. But we believe, just like the people backing us, that designing and maintaining most parts ourselves shouldn't be a disadvantage," said a hopeful Claire Williams to AutoCar.
