Marko on Verstappen's focus: 'Maybe that's what makes him so strong'

Red Bull Racing performed excellently again at Zandvoort. Max Verstappen won his home race, and Sergio Perez finished just outside the podium due to a mistake and a five-second penalty. Especially in the rain, the other teams seemed closer to Red Bull. Speaking to Viaplay, Red Bull's top consultant Helmut Marko talked about the improved performance of the competition.

Aston Martin was particularly fast in the race. Fernando Alonso was allowed to start fifth in the race, but he quickly climbed to third place. After a spin by Perez during the late showers, the Spaniard was able to move up to second place. On the restart after the red flag situation, Alonso even thought of attacking for victory, but he did not.

Marko also sees the competition getting strong: "I'm a little bit longer than you in this business. The competition is getting stronger from the year. And you can't forget we have 23 races, and that means a lot of work, a lot of simulations and so on. So it's demanding for the drivers. But I think his big advantage is that he is so focused on Formula 1. That's his life. And the rest is just happening. Maybe that makes him so strong as well.""
