Former F2 champion lands 'biggest' opportunity in new career chapter

The 22-year-old Frenchman began a rapid rise through the junior ranks, establishing himself as one of France's brightest motorsport prospects. However, his path to Formula 1 came to a halt despite winning the Formula 2 title three years ago.

That same year, and again in 2024, he served as a Formula 1 reserve driver for Alfa Romeo during the team's final season before continuing in the role with Kick Sauber. Last year, he also worked as a development driver for Mercedes, following a handful of appearances in IndyCar and the WEC.

Pourchaire described joining Opel GSE Formula E Team as a major milestone in his career, praising the manufacturer's rich motorsport heritage and its growing presence in Formula E: “It feels great to be joining the Opel GSE Formula E Team and the Opel family – an iconic brand with a rich racing history which is now making a name for itself in the World Championship.”

The Frenchman said the move represented the biggest single-seater opportunity of his career and believes the new Gen4 cars are ideally suited to his driving style thanks to their increased power, permanent all-wheel drive and impressive acceleration. He added that his priority is to keep learning and developing while doing everything possible to help Opel achieve success from the very beginning.

Next season will also mark the biggest technical revolution in Formula E history with the arrival of the all-new Gen4 era. The new cars will deliver a major leap in performance, producing 450 kW in race trim and up to 600 kW in qualifying and Attack Mode, making them significantly more powerful than their Gen3 Evo predecessors.

The Gen4 car will also be the fastest Formula E machine ever built, with a top speed exceeding 335 km/h, a 0-100 km/h time of around 1.8 seconds and substantially quicker lap times. Energy regeneration will increase to an unprecedented 700 kW.
