Jack Aitken, Williams' official reserve driver, will make his appearance in Abu Dhabi in the first free practice session. It will be the first time since the Sakhir Grand Prix that the British-Korean driver has featured in an official Formula One session.

No seat at Williams

Aitken joined Williams in 2020 as a reserve driver, making his racing debut at Sakhir as a replacement for George Russell who took his place in Lewis Hamilton's Mercedes that weekend. Aitken is the team's reserve driver again this season. For a long time, he was also named as a candidate for a seat at Williams in 2022, but this eventually went to Alex Albon. Whether Aitken will remain as a reserve driver in 2022 is not yet clear.
Aitken has raced in Formula 2 in recent years, but his last successes are from 2019 when he won three races for Campos Racing. In 2017, he finished second in the GP3 Series. This season, Aitken also competed in the GT World Challenge Europe for Emil Frey Racing.
