"Where's Newey? Maybe he had his best time?

"It is a shame that Mercedes is so superior. But where's Adrian Newey, Red Bull's designer? Maybe he had his best time," Albers asks himself aloud in the latest podcast of De Telegraaf. The former driver argues that the Austrian race stable might have to make some changes internally.

The Milton Keynes-based formation did this last weekend in part by giving Alexander Albon a new engineer in the person of Simon Rennie. Albon nevertheless went through another difficult weekend. The British Thai got a time penalty of five seconds after a clash with Kevin Magnussen.

Albers didn't understand that the stewards didn't judge the touché as a race incident. "We have to go back to old-fashioned racing and stop all those rules. People are punished too often, but let's be honest, those drivers have an annual salary of 5 to 30 million euros. If we are going to be so concerned with safety, they might as well be earning a normal salary", he believes.

The 41-year-old Dutchman doesn't believe that Rennie is going to get the leak out of Albon. "Red Bull now only has one driver who is good", says Albers, stating that Verstappen needs a stronger driver next to him in order to improve the RB16 and narrow the gap to Mercedes. "This doesn't help Max to get those last tenths."
