Verstappen satisfied with qualifying performance: 'I felt comfortable'

Verstappen's goal was to finish inside the top seven and secure a place in Top Qualifying. The four-time Formula 1 world champion ultimately set the sixth-fastest time in Top Qualifying 2, meaning Daniel Juncadella can challenge for pole position later today.

Chatting to Mercedes after the session, Verstappen explained: "Yeah, I mean, I felt comfortable in the car. Of course, we were targeting to get to Top Qualifying 3, which of course is not easy with the competition out there. It's super tough. You know, a lot of fast cars around, but yeah, we just managed to sneak in. So yeah, the final lap was just good enough. It was nice. I mean, luckily it was dry. The car felt all right, and we managed to sneak in, so that was the target."

Last evening, Verstappen also drove in Qualifying 2, and got to test his #3 Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo car in more difficult conditions. He added: "Yesterday, a lot of changing conditions, and for me the first time in the night in probably the worst possible conditions with the rain, the fog coming in. But at least I got a good first idea of what to expect potentially in the race as well, so that was good.
