There were other candidates for the second seat, such as Aston Martin development driver Felipe Drugovich, and current F2 drivers Alex Dunne and Jak Crawford.
The team decided to go with Sergio Perez. The Mexican was let go by Red Bull Racing following the 2024 season, when he finished in eighth place in the drivers' standings.
