Mercedes issues update on Verstappen Racing driver's condition

Verstappen Racing competed last weekend at the Circuit Paul Ricard with Chris Lulham, Daniel Juncadella, and Jules Gounon driving the Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo at the opening round of the GT World Challenge Europe campaign. After six hours of racing, the team finished ninth.

More than the result itself, Gounon's condition became the main talking point. The French-Andorran driver turned out to have contracted food poisoning in the lead-up to the race and drove while feeling extremely ill. After his stint, the Verstappen Racing driver even had to be treated for hours in the circuit’s medical center.

This Monday, GPblog heard from Mercedes about how Gounon is doing now. The manufacturer reports that “he is doing well” and is already on his way to Austria. A test for the new DTM season will take place there on Tuesday. Gounon is expected to be back in action at the Red Bull Ring, also in a Mercedes.

He will then head straight to Italy, where the opening round of the World Endurance Championship (WEC) takes place this weekend. Gounon will compete there for Alpine in the Hypercar class.

Meanwhile, Max Verstappen will also be active on the Nurburgring Nordschleife this weekend, taking part in the Qualifiers that can secure a strong starting position for the 24 Hours of the Nürburgring.

Naturally, Verstappen does not have Gounon available, nor Daniel Juncadella. The Spanish driver will also compete at Imola in WEC. The four-time Formula 1 champion will share his Mercedes with Lucas Auer in Germany this weekend.
