A heavy downpour has hit the Sepang International Circuit less than an hour before the start of the Bahrain Grand Prix, leaving plenty of uncertainty over the conditions drivers will face when the race gets underway shortly.
The drivers headed out for their reconnaissance laps before taking their places on the grid on intermediate tyres, but the rain has continued to fall relentlessly, with puddles now beginning to form around the circuit.
The rain is falling more heavily in certain areas of the circuit, with the first sector appearing particularly wet, while conditions in the second sector look noticeably less challenging.
"It's raining heavier now. It's just these inters are going to get chewed up in these conditions," George Russell complained over the radio, highlighting how difficult it has become to manage the intermediate tyres as conditions continued to evolve.
