Hamilton and Russell both sped in the pit lane, earning them a five-second penalty each in Monte Carlo. As both drivers have already made their sole pit stop, the penalty will be added to their race time after the chequered flag. This means that if the race were to finish behind the safety car, they could lose important positions.
Hamilton is currently in second place, with his teammate, Charles Leclerc, chasing him. That gap is currently above five seconds after 43 laps were completed.
