Lewis Hamilton and George Russell have received a five-second time penalty each at the Monaco Grand Prix. For now, the Ferrari driver's provisional podium is not in danger, but the incident could have big consequences still.
Hamilton and Russell both sped in the pit lane, earning them a five-second penalty each in Monte Carlo. As both drivers have already made their sole pit stop, the penalty will be added to their race time after the chequered flag. This means that if the race were to finish behind the safety car, they could lose important positions.
Hamilton is currently in second place, with his teammate, Charles Leclerc, chasing him. That gap is currently above five seconds after 43 laps were completed.
Russell is sitting in seventh place, and he is being held up by Lando Norris. Follow the session with GPblog's liveblog here!
