WATCH: On this day in 2003 a protester goes onto the Silverstone track

On this day in 2003, the Silverstone Grand Prix had an unexpected visitor. Father Cornelius Horan ran onto the track and sprinted down the Hanger straight as cars past at high speed.

He was protesting to generate some exposure for the bible. His banner said: “Read the Bible - The Bible is always right.” Horan was eventually tacked by a marshal and was sentenced for two months in jail for his actions. 

Rubens Barrichello went on to win the race beating Juan Pablo Montoya and Kimi Raikkonen.
