Mercedes are more motivated than ever to continue their engine dominance in Formula 1, even after the rule changes that come into effect in 2022. Toto Wolff sees the changes mainly as yet another attempt to stop Mercedes and wants to prove that they will not succeed.

Mercedes sees rule changes as attempt to stop them

Wolff says the motivation within the team remains high by always setting a new goal. That goal now is the major rule change scheduled for 2022. "We want to prove that we cannot be stopped by these changes either," he says in conversation with Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung.
According to Wolff, these changes are made mainly to antagonise Mercedes. "For this year there was another change, with the aim of changing the order," continued the 49-year-old Austrian. "It cost us a lot of performance, especially in relation to the other teams." He estimates the loss at 'five or more tenths per lap'.
"That is a fact," he adds. Despite that, he hopes the title fight continues until the end of the season. "The best thing would be if the world championship is decided at the last race with a one-point difference," says the Mercedes team boss.
