Toto Wolff is confident that Lewis Hamilton will remain part of Mercedes beyond 2023. Although the Briton has an expiring contract and may therefore be in his final season in Formula 1, both parties are keen to extend.
Hamilton has repeatedly indicated in recent months that he has no intention of leaving the motorsport class just yet. A longer stay at Mercedes therefore seems to be a matter of time, although Wolff says it is not as if Hamilton is begging for it.
"That's not how I see it at all. I said very early on that Lewis will always stay with us. The decision will always be discussed between us," Wolff stressed in an interview with Auto, Motor und Sport. The Mercedes team boss is convinced that Hamilton is still keen.
"Lewis would be the first to say he doesn't like it anymore. In that respect, we want to continue. We will certainly negotiate as we have done in previous years. I don't see any indication that we should change anything."

Wolff stressed that Hamilton remains, along with Michael Schumacher, the most successful driver of all time in Formula 1. Mercedes will therefore not have an easy time replacing the driver in the future. The team hopes George Russell can follow in Hamilton's footsteps in the coming years.
