Mercedes have been supreme in
Formula 1 for seven years and seem to have fought the most exciting battles internally. According to team boss
Toto Wolff, this is forgetting that
Sebastian Vettel was once a fierce rival. The fight against
Max Verstappen is therefore nothing new.
Battle is daily fare for Mercedes
Mercedes have not yet fallen from their throne, but
Red Bull Racing and Verstappen open a strong attack in 2021 that looks set to succeed. Wolff doesn't seem excited about the 'new' rivalry just yet.
Speaking to
Speedweek.com the Austrian says:
"It's true that we experienced the battle mainly internally in recent years. It was only not long ago that Vettel was a contender in his Ferrari. He was even ahead during the summer break."Wolff very confident
"Even if it gets blown up as a fight between two kings, it's still normal day-to-day business for us," Wolff continued the conversation.
Wolff sounds confident enough about the battle with
Red Bull Racing. When asked where he sees the advantages and disadvantages for both teams, the team boss replies:
"We have a good car that we understand better than before. Our advantage is that we have nothing to prove anymore."
