Sebastian Vettel has regained his old level after a difficult start to the season. The German conquered second place during the Azerbaijan Grand Prix and in doing so secured his first podium with Aston Martin. The driver had to work hard for this in recent months.
The four-time world champion has noticed that managing the tyres takes a lot of attention. "You have to get the same feeling for the tyres in the other car as you had before," he tells Auto, Motor und Sport. "Somehow it seems even harder to achieve that. Maybe the drivers who changed teams were not so flawless the first races, because with the new cars there are other tricks to make the tires work optimally."
Vettel has been driving around Formula 1 for many years and has seen many changes in the teams in it. "The knowledge about tyres has exploded in the last five or six years. There is much more discussion about it than there used to be. The group of tyre experts in the teams has become bigger and the knowledge has become more in-depth."

Vettel in the world championship

After six races, Vettel is ninth in the world championship. Whereas in Monaco he finished in fifth position, in Azerbaijan his second-place even earned him 18 points.
