Sebastian Vettel has opened up about the advice he gave Lewis Hamilton following the British driver’s move to Scuderia Ferrari.
“I told Lewis when he made the move, ‘The only advice I can give you, the best advice, is learn the language.’”
- Sebastian Vettel
The 38-year-old, speaking on the latest episode of the F1 Beyond the Grid podcast, was asked about the challenges Hamilton has faced at Ferrari so far.
Vettel explained that he always knew joining Ferrari would be a unique experience before revealing the sole advice he offered to the seven-time world champion.

“The move to Ferrari, for sure, is going to be a huge difference. The heart and culture of the team is Italian. The language is English,” Vettel began.
“He understands everybody in the team, but there are also employees that he doesn’t understand because they don’t speak English or they don’t speak English very well. If you don’t speak a language very well, you get along, but do you really get the people? Do you get the culture?” he added.
Looking back at his own time at Ferrari, Vettel admitted that language was a misstep he regrets:
“That’s a crucial mistake that I made, looking back. I learned Italian, I took classes, I got along, and I understood, but I wasn’t perfect. I should have really studied Italian more, maybe spent more time in Italy to understand the culture better.”

“The culture is also the people. I told Lewis when he made the move, ‘The only advice I can give you, the best advice, is learn the language, learn it really well,’” he concluded.
Hamilton has had a torrid start to his chapter at the Ferrari outfit. The British driver remains without a podium finish in 22 races with the team so far. Last time out at the Las Vegas Grand Prix, Hamilton labelled the season as the toughest of his career.

Hamilton’s Ferrari future thrown into doubt

Former Haas team principal Guenther Steiner has stated Ferrari risks losing Hamilton if the team does not get things right with its 2026 car.
The 60-year-old stated the Brit driver is already frustrated with the situation at the team, and an improved car for 2026 could lift his morale and persuade him to continue in Formula 1.
