Max Verstappen is refusing to get ahead of himself following a fantastic season opener in Melbourne for the
Red Bull driver which saw him claim an unexpected third ahead of both of the
Ferraris.
Verstappen driving competitively in a Red Bull with a Honda engine for the first time comfortably beat Vettel to the final podium spot and even put the pressure on
Hamilton in second which would have been a real surprise. The Dutchman’s teammate,
Pierre Gasly didn’t have an as successful weekend finishing eleventh behind
Daniil Kvyat in the
Toro Rosso.
Despite the excellent showing from Red Bull’s number one he’s refusing the get ahead of himself, citing the
Australian Grand Prix circuit as a reason for this.
“It was, of course, very positive to start the season with a podium in Australia, but Melbourne is not a representative circuit.
“We can therefore not take it a bit easier.
“I don't think we'll know exactly where we stand before the race in China.
“As complicated as this may be for the extremely controlled F1 teams, it makes the Bahrain Grand Prix 'an interesting weekend',” added Verstappen.
