Max Verstappen has faced plenty of criticism from around the F1 world this morning, but he has given his right of reply. Hard hitting comments came from many former drivers, including Nico Rosberg.
Rosberg claimed he had given up hope on the Dutch driver. But Verstappen has responded with some strong comments himself. He suggests he understands what he’s doing wrong and believes he can fix it.
“These are painful moments, but I think it’s necessary to get better,” Verstappen said to Ziggo Sport.
“Sometimes you have a year that does not work out for a while, but it’s much worse if you’re not fast enough - and that’s not the case.”
Verstappen proved he has the ability to drive as fast as he ever has done in Monaco. Max Verstappen set the fastest lap of the race and broke the lap record in the process.
The 20-year-old went on to confirm the harsh comments he received this morning aren’t needed.
“I know very well what I did wrong and what needs to be improved,” he added.
“They are not great moments, but sometimes you need them to learn the hard lessons. I do not need that criticism.”
