Jacques Villeneuve believes Max Verstappen could break Michael Schumacher and Lewis Hamilton's record of seven F1 world titles should he aim for that.
"He just doesn't stop. He's relentless. He's a pure racer and a passionate one, so that's what you want to see. That's what you want champions to become."
- Jacques Villeneuve
The 1997 world champion is full of praise for Verstappen, who just missed out on his fifth world title during the 2025 Formula 1 season.
The Red Bull Racing driver won the final three rounds of the season, but finished two points behind Lando Norris in the drivers' standings.
According to the Canadian, Verstappen has shown he is among the best ever. He explained to a betting site: "Max has shown why he’s part of the greats of the sport, up there with the Sennas and the Prosts, and the Mansells of this world, and the greats who came before."

He added: "He just doesn’t stop. He’s relentless. He’s a pure racer and a passionate one, so that’s what you want to see. That’s what you want champions to become."
As a result, Villeneuve believes Verstappen has what it takes to win seven, or even eight titles. "He has the talent, so give him a chance, and he will snag it. Yes."

Verstappen enjoys the winter break in Brazil

Ahead of the 2026 season, the Dutchman is currently taking some off with his family and friend in Brazil.
Verstappen also tested his skills in volleyball, and was pictured with a drink in his hand.
