Max Verstappen is fully focused on the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix this weekend, but Sunday he can win another award. The Dutchman has in fact been nominated for the Laureus World Sports Awards for Sportsman of the Year, reports De Telegraaf.
Where Lewis Hamilton, Michael Schumacher and Sebastian Vettel have already received the prestigious award, also known as the Oscars of the sports world, a Dutchman has received it. The world title of Verstappen was reason enough for the international media to nominate him.
With Tom Brady, Robert Lewandowski, Caeleb Dressel and Eliud Kipchoge as competitors, it will not be easy for Verstappen to receive the award. Nevertheless, experts would expect the reigning world champion in Formula 1 to be the winner just like that.

Previous nomination for Verstappen

Incidentally, this is not the first time Verstappen's name has been heard at the event. In 2016, when he made the switch to Red Bull Racing, he was among the nominees for the Breakthrough of the Year award. However, at the time he lost to golfer Jordan Spieth. Cyclist Annemiek van Vleuten is also a possible winner on Sunday. She has a chance in the category Comeback of the Year.
