This is the state of play after opening stage of the 24 Hours of Le Mans

We have to wait until Formula 1 starts again, but in the meantime, there is plenty of action on the track elsewhere. This weekend, one of the biggest racing events of the year will take place: the 24 Hours of Le Mans. What's the situation after the first two hours?

The opening phase of the race was dramatic: just before and during the start there was heavy rain, so the race had to start behind the safety car. When the green flag was waved things went wrong immediately: Olivier Pla hit Sebastien Buemi, who spun and dropped back to 25th place.

Buemi recovered well though and has now taken over the lead from Mike Conway. At the head of the field, it seems to be down to numbers seven and eight of Toyota Gazoo Racing, but there is a very long way to go yet.
