FIA race director Charlie Whiting confirms that blue flags could be departing F1. The topic has been brought up in meetings. They currently force backmarkers to move out of the way against leading cars.
Blue flags came into play in 1995. Some fans are suggesting they’d love to see a leading driver have to overtake the back-marker. This will add another factor for cars to deal with on race day.
“There’s been talk about that, it’s been proposed a few times,” suggested Whiting.
“Hugely unpopular with teams and drivers, of course, it’s something that is on the agenda, so to speak, it’s not been rejected completely.
“It’s not popular. It would be quite something to get that through.”
