The scandal surrounding Nikita Mazepin is almost two weeks old, and the possible consequences for the Russian, who aims to make his Formula 1 debut at Haas in 2021, are still unclear. Guenther Steiner has admitted that these consequences may never come to light.
During an interview in Abu Dhabi Steiner admitted the following regarding the consequences for Mazepin: "I will deal with that the coming week. Maybe you guys will never know what was dealt with, and what are the circumstances.” Why? “Because I will keep them private," Steiner explained to Autosport.com.
It is not the first time that Haas has been extremely secretive about the debacle surrounding their brand new driver Mazepin. When the scandal came to light, the team stressed several times that they wanted to address the issue internally, in order to avoid public discussion about it.
"I need to get the facts together, speak with people, speak with the people involved and speak [about] how it happened. And then I can make my assessment."
The team boss is also not concerned about the objectivity of his judgment, in light of his team's financial dependency on Dmitry Mazepin. “I can make an objective assessment, obviously," he reassured.
