A lot of Formula 1 teams will be racing in their home event this weekend at the British Grand Prix. One of those teams is Williams. Even though it's their home circuit, which has been fixed on the schedule throughout Pirelli's most recent tenure, Williams is unsure how the tyres will react because the track has been resurfaced.
Throughout the 2019 Formula 1 season, the tyres have been one of the biggest talking points. Seemingly only Mercedes understand the compounds while an unsuccessful vote to switch back to the 2018 sets was held in June.
But this weekend provides a fresh tyre challenge because of the resurfaced track. Williams Senior Race Engineer, Dave Robson, hopes his team can get the measure of the tyres early on Friday.
"The circuit has been resurfaced very recently and it is unclear how the tyres will behave. Therefore, this will be the first challenge facing the drivers and engineers and only once this is understood can the set-up be refined, and test components evaluated," Robson commented.
"The combination of corner complexes and well-spaced straights push the cars to their limits and makes car setup and tyre management crucial. We are looking forward to our home race, facing the challenges of this iconic circuit and continuing our progress."
