Sainz doesn't want to take a risk: 'I had the opportunity in the past'

Carlos Sainz is having a great time at Ferrari this season. With the Italian team he can compete for the podiums in 2022, taking a new step in his career. His team is also giving him the chance to gain experience in other areas.

In the past Ferrari offered him the opportunity to give a demonstration in a historic Formula 1 car. Whereas Charles Leclerc and Sebastian Vettel gratefully took up the offer in the past, Sainz chooses not to take it up.

"I had the opportunity to [test an old Ferrari] in the past. It always gives you a vision of how the sport was a long time ago. I’m in two minds with it because why would you risk it? Like, why? You’re in the middle of a Ferrari championship-winning chance," Sainz told Formula1.com.

Sainz says he sometimes wonders what it's like to drive an older Formula 1 car, leaving the possibility open that he may change his mind at some point. For now, however, he is focusing on the second half of the season with Ferrari.
