Because of the incoming typhoon, Formula 1 have postponed qualifying until Sunday morning. However, if it turns out impossible to run qualifying on Sunday morning because of rain (or any other reason), results from FP2 will be the starting grid for the Japanese Grand Prix.
This might make second practice a little more exciting than usual with teams pushing harder. This is also the final test ahead of the meaningful events with FP3 falling victim the extreme weather.
Not only the setup has to be right, but also the time. So 'sandbagging' on Friday is no longer there and the drivers will do everything they can to drive the fastest time. If the qualification cannot continue on Sunday morning, then the FIA has at least a list that can be used for the starting grid.
